Deccan Chronicle to launch financial daily in April-May; appoints Meridian as creative agency

Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd, publisher of English daily Deccan Chronicle, will be launching its financial daily in the first half of the calendar year 2008. The launch will see editions rolling out in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, from day one.

Shubhrangshu Roy, COO and Editor-in-Chief of the financial daily, confirmed this to exchange4mdia. He also informed that O&M’s sister agency, Meridian, had been roped in to handle the launch campaign.

“The reputation of the creative people at Meridian and their ability to ideate matched our requirements. And, therefore, we decided to appoint Meridian as our creative partner,” Roy further said.

“We will be launching the financial daily in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai in the first half of the calendar year,” Roy said. He, however, refused to reveal the marketing budget for the financial daily. Industry sources predict that the launch would be a high-decibel affair, spread across the geographies addressed by the financial daily.

It may be recalled that exchange4media has earlier reported that Deccan Chronicle was planning to launch a financial daily. The financial daily segment is seeing a lot of action in recent times, especially the launch of language editions of well-established financial dailies like The Economic Times and Business Standard.
