Chairman of Vikatan group : S Balasubramanian passes away

Veteran journalist and media personality, S Balasubramanian, Chairman, Vikatan group of publications passed away on December 19, 2014. He was 78.
S Balasubramanian, was the son of a film producer and owner of Gemini Studios S S Vasan. Balasubramanian, pioneering in the field of investigative journalism, Junior Vikatan was his brainchild. He has also made revolutionary changes in content of the group’s flagship magazine, Ananda Vikatan.
Born in 1936, Balasubramanian has been a dominant force in the Indian media for the last six decades. He served as the Editor & Managing Director of Ananda Vikatan and was also the Managing Director of Gemini Studios. He was also internationally famous aviculturalist and agriculturalist. An avid animal, fish and bird enthusiast, he is an expert breeder. He also maintained one of the largest bird farms in South Asia, Gemini Bird Farm, set in the Padappai region.
Balasubramanian has also written some successful novels and serials including Un Kannil Neer Vazhindhaal and Pesum Porchitthirame.
Balasubramanian is survived by his wife and six daughters and one son B Srinivasan, who is currently the Managing Director of the Vikatan Group.
Many journalists who are today at the helm of various newspapers and magazines are products of Balasubramanian’s ‘student journalists scheme’.
