Amar Ujala is betting big on tapping new markets. In a bid to strengthen its presence in Uttar Pradesh, the paper is planning to launch its Gorakhpur and Aligarh editions. While the Aligarh edition is slated for launch in the first week of November, the Gorakhpur edition will be launched in December. Currently the Agra edition serves the Aligarh market.
Amar Ujala currently serves the UP market with editions from Meerut, Agra, Noida, Moradabad, Bareilli, Benares, Kanpur and Allahabad. With the Aligarh and the Gorakhpur editions, the paper will add its ninth and tenth editions, respectively.
Currently, Dainik Jagran has a monopoly in the Gorakhpur market. Amar Ujala wants to fill the vacuum that is there in that market.
Debabrata Mishra, Corporate Head, SPMD (Sales, Planning Marketing and Development), Amar Ujala, said, “There is a vast opportunity to be tapped in Gorakhpur. We at Amar Ujala strongly believe in creating an urge among readers to read a newspaper. We also believe in getting into new markets.”
Amar Ujala is going to serve places like Siddharthnagar, Devriya, Basti, Awadh, Maharajganj through its Gorakhpur edition. The paper is not going to bring any new pricing strategy as far as its new edition is concerned. It plans to start with an initial print run of around 70,000-80,000 copies.
The Aligarh edition will start with an initial print run of 50,000 copies. “We believe in going close to our readers that is why we are launching in Aligarh,” said Mishra.
