Amar Ujala is expanding its footprint in the Hindi heartland. The Hindi daily is launching its Lucknow edition on June 24. This edition would also cover eight other districts of Uttar Pradesh – Rai Bareli, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Sitapur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Faizabad and Sultanpur. The paper would be priced at Rs 3.50 and have a confirmed subscription of 210,000.
Commenting on the need to launch in Lucknow, Sunil Mutreja, President-Marketing, Amar Ujala, said, “Our research shows that Lucknow readers want unbiased reporting and a fearless paper that will stand for the aspirations of people of the region.”
Talking about plans to expand to other regions, Mutreja said, “Right now we have no plans for other regions. We are working on our strengths; even if the cover price of the paper drops to 50 paise, we will still be able to survive in the market.”
Regarding promotion plans, Muterja said that the paper would do complete 360-degree advertising, which had been conceptualised by their in-house team.
Other competitors in the market include Danik Jagran, which too is priced at Rs 3.50, Aj priced at Rs 2, Hindustan priced at Rs 3/3.50, and Rashtriya Sahara priced at Rs 3/3.50.
