After Hindustan, Rajasthan Patrika also plans to join Madhya Pradesh media war

If Mumbai was the turf for the recent media battle among English newspapers, now it appears to be the turn of Madhya Pradesh to experience a Hindi print media war soon. Dominated by the Bhaskar group, the MP market has a huge potential for a strong number 2 Hindi daily. HT Media has already announced plans to launch an MP edition of its Hindi daily, Hindustan. And now, Rajasthan Patrika has decided to venture into the MP and Chhattisgarh market.

“Rajasthan Patrika is in talks with some local players. If things go well, then we will work in tandem to bring out a quality product. We hope to launch the new edition within a month’s time,” Brijraj Singh, Senior Circulation Manager, Rajasthan Patrika, said.

About the growing interest of newspapers in the MP market, Singh said, “There is space for a strong No. 2 player in the state. The publications available now lack the quality of Rajasthan Patrika. In Chhattisgarh, Navbharat Times is a distant second to Bhaskar. Hence the market is attractive and we want to tap this opportunity.”

The paper is looking at four to five editions in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh initially, Singh informed.

Last July, Rajasthan Patrika had entered the Kolkata market, six months after launching its Delhi edition. Currently, the paper has 18 editions with a presence in six states and three metros.

Recently, Dainik Hindustan also declared its intentions to venture into Madhya Pradesh in five months’ time.

There is bound to be lots of action in this important Hindi print market. And, a la Mumbai and The Times of India, this time it will be Dainik Bhaskar, the undisputed leader, which will have to protect its turf.
