Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL) is planning to launch a Hindi edition of its financial newspaper The Economic Times. Confirming the news, Ravi Dhariwal, CEO (Publishing), BCCL, said, “Yes, we are coming up with a Hindi edition of The Economic Times very soon. But I cannot divulge any further details on this.”
When asked about the launch date, Dhariwal hinted that the newspaper was “expected within a month or so”.
Commenting on the reasons to come out with a Hindi edition, Dhariwal said, “We are coming up with a Hindi business newspaper as a lot of Hindi speaking readers would benefit from this.”
This would be the second vernacular edition of The Economics Times after ET Gujarati, which was launched in February 2007 in Ahmedabad, and in Mumbai in late 2007.
Meanwhile, according to sources, plans were also afoot to launch The Times of India in Chennai, followed by a Goa edition of TOI, and the relaunch of TOI’s Jaipur edition. When asked about these proposed launches of TOI, Dhariwal said that it was “too early to comment on these developments”.
