ZEEL gears for 2010; restructures organisation

Zee Enterprises Entertainment Ltd (ZEEL) has effected some senior management changes to streamline its functions in the past one month.

Nitin Vaidya, COO, ZEEL, and Business Head, Zee TV, has been re-assigned the regional channel’s portfolio in the Hindi Speaking Markets (HSM). The English channels – Zee Studio and Zee Café – which were being handled by Vaidya, will now be looked after by Anurag Bedi, Business Head of Zee Trendz, ETC and Zing.

Bedi will continue to report to Joy Chakraborthy, who will now also handle the profit and loss account of these five channels. This will be in addition to his current role as Chief Revenue Officer at ZEEL.

Earlier, Boman Moradian was given the charge of the regional channels when Vaidya was given the additional responsibility of Zee TV. All the business heads of South regional channels comprising Zee Telugu, Zee Tamil, Zee Kannada and Zee South syndication will continue to report to Moradian.

At the same time, Zee Studio Business Head Sujay Kutty will assist Vaidya.

While no official confirmation was available at the time of filing this report, sources close to the development said that all the business heads of HSM regional channels would report to Vaidya till further announcement. The business heads of Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla, Akash Bangla, Zee Jagran, ETC Punjabi, Zee Salam and Zee Talkies will also report to Vaidya.

Last week, the channel had also restructured its sales operations, wherein the sales structure was divided along 'network' and 'non-network' handling of its pool of advertisers. The 'network' approach will spread across ZEEL’s 40 clients that account for 40 per cent of the broadcasting company's revenues and the team will be headed by Jitesh Rajdeo.

As part of the change, ZEEL’s sports business is handled by Rahul Shaw, who will also manage the ad sales of Zee Café and Zee Studio. Zee Sports will be kept out of the network selling.

As far as non-network selling is concerned, Priyanka Datta will look after Zee TV, Zee Bangla, Akash Bangla, Zee Smile and ETC Punjabi channels, while Ashish Sehgal will look after Zee Cinema, Zee Premiere, Zee Action, Zee Classic, Zee Talkies, Zee Marathi, Zee Telugu, Zee Kannada, Zee Jagran and Zee Salaam.
