Zee Turner ropes in Idea Cellular’s Virad Kaul as CEO

Zee Turner Ltd, the joint venture company of two media conglomerates – Essel Group and Turner International – has appointed Virad Kaul as CEO. Prior to this, Kaul was COO, Idea Cellular, UP, West, for the last four years and was also holding additional charge of the Delhi and Haryana circles for the last few months. He was instrumental in leading Idea to the No. 1 position in UP, West, spearheading its rapid ascent and market share growth in the circle.

Announcing Kaul’s appointment, Arun K Kapoor, Group CEO, Distribution Businesses, Essel Group, said, “Virad has the vision, experience and energy to lead Zee Turner, and we are confident that his leadership experience will provide great impetus to the growth plans of the company. I am sure that his focus on execution, coupled with exceptional people management and team building skills, will provide a cutting edge to the company.”

Kaul brings with him rich and diverse work experience across various sales, marketing and strategy, and valuable experience of 25 years spanning telecom and FMCG; in organisations such as Gillette and Godfrey Phillips.

Heading the Specialty Sales vertical of Gillette in India, Kaul was responsible for brands ranging from Gillette Blades, Razors, Oral B, Prudent and Duracell reaching newer heights. He had also played a key role in establishing the more specialised brands like Parker and Braun. He had also handled the South Asia markets of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives for Gillette.

Zee Turner Ltd is a 74:26 joint venture between Essel Group and Turner International, which distributes the Zee and Turner pay channel bouquets in India. Headquartered in Delhi, Zee Turner was incorporated in February 2002, when the two media giants joined hands to form a joint venture to manage primarily distribution and trade marketing for pay channels.
