Zee News marketing head Deepender Sehajpal moves on to head new venture, Media Estate

After spending eight years with Zee Network, Deepender Sehajpal, Marketing Head, Zee News, has decided to move on. He is partnering with Vikas Malhotra to set up a new venture called, Media Estate, which is the online media marketing arm of Mosaic Services.

Mosaic Services, founded by Malhotra in 2002, is an integrated online advertising and marketing company. Its range of services include online media buying, search marketing, email marketing, affiliate marketing, and technical consultancy.

Elaborating on the reason for the move, Sehajpal said, “Having attained a wealth of experience in various roles at Zee Network, creating values as an entrepreneur was the next logical step.”

Sehajpal has held multi-dimensional roles in his ‘very, very fulfilling’ stint with the Zee Network. During his eight-year tenure, Sehajpal was part of Strategic Management, Sales and Marketing functions, with assignments ranging from being a founding member of the Strategic Business Unit in Mumbai for films and music markets, between 1997 and 1999, to setting up a unit for selling airtime on the Network’s international channels from Delhi in 1999-2000.

Between 2000 and 2003, Sehajpal was part of the Strategic Management Team that worked on setting up a sports channel. The last position that he held entailed him to look after the marketing for the Zee News channel.

He was instrumental in driving the growth and repositioning of Zee News and had played a key role in augmenting the channel’s share for major part of 2005.

Sehajpal, for whom both content and context is important, while commenting on the challenges that he foresaw in his new assignment, said, “The challenge will be to make Media Estate a dominant player in the fast emerging Internet space.”

Meanwhile, the position left vacant by Sehajpal will reportedly be filled internally.
