Yahoo! India makes strategic appointments to beef up online, search & mobile business

In an effort to strengthen its search and online research business, Yahoo! India has announced a series of strategic appointments. Vishal Maheshwari will be the new Head of Yahoo! India Mobile. In addition, Rishi Behal has been promoted as Director-Strategic Alliances & Search, while Pearl Uppal will head the National Sales function of Yahoo! India as Sales Director. All three will report directly to Neville Taraporewalla, Country Manager, Yahoo! India.

"Yahoo! India has seen an aggressive growth rate in the last couple of years. Our mobile content business is also on the rise besides we see a great potential in the search business. The new appointments signify our continued investment in people, resources and technology in India and also throw light on Yahoo's trust in local talent to power its business,” said Taraporewalla.

Yahoo! India provides value-added services to mobile phone users across the country through SMS. To provide renewed strategic direction, Maheshwari has been appointed to head Yahoo! India Mobile. He was formerly Head of Customer Asset Management in BPL Mobile Communications and will now use his experience across various sectors like telecom, financial services and FMCG to strengthen Yahoo! India's Mobile business.

Seeing the growing potential of the search business in India, Rishi Behal, formerly Regional Manager-Sales, has been promoted to head the Strategic Alliances and Search function for Yahoo! India. He will be responsible for adapting search for Yahoo! India and plan its road map for success in India.

Uppal, who is based in Delhi, will now spearhead the national sales function of the company. She will be responsible for increasing the online advertising client base of Yahoo! India and maintaining its leadership space in the domain.
