WorldSpace India has appointed Deepak Varma as its new Managing Director. A senior professional with 30 years' experience across various industries and roles, Varma will lead the satellite radio company through its planned multi-market rollout mapped for 2005. This announcement comes as WorldSpace is gearing up for a multi-metro launch of its Indian service.
Varma takes over from K. R. Harish, who will continue with the organisation with broader corporate financial responsibilities as CFO of WorldSpace's Asia operations. "Taking over responsibility from Harish, I look forward to take WorldSpace to the next level in its growth plans in the coming years. I have only one goal at WorldSpace -- to deliver the best of satellite radio to the largest number of satisfied subscribers," said Varma.
Varma began his career at Procter & Gamble in its sales team. Over the next few years, he worked with companies like Modi Xerox, RPG Ricoh and BPL Mobile. He joined BPL Mobile as COO for the Tamil Nadu and Kerala circles, and moved on to become CEO of BPL Net and BPL Broadband. Next, he stepped into the role of President and CEO of BPL Mobile-Mumbai, and finally became Executive VP and COO of BPL Mobile covering all circles.
