In a first of its kind development, an international media agency has named a Global CEO based in India. Vikram Sakhuja, who at present is the Chief Executive for GroupM South Asia, will soon don the role of Global CEO, Maxus. Sakhuja will continue to be based in Mumbai.
In conversation with exchange4media, Sakhuja said, “This is an immense honour and I am very excited with the opportunity this presents. Maxus is a very energetic brand in the GroupM set-up, it is entrepreneurial in nature and I look forward to leading this team.”
He informed that the new role will become effective as soon as GroupM announces the replacement for Sakhuja’s South Asia role.
Sakhuja will replace Kelly Clark, who will move to another role in the GroupM structure for its North America operations. GroupM has also announced the appointment of Rob Norman as its Global Chief Digital Officer.
For GroupM, the development comes in the wake of changes in Mindshare, where again India has played a key role in forming the global management team of the agency, given the elevation of Ashutosh Srivastava to Mindshare’s Global Head for Emerging Markets.
Sakhuja joined GroupM in 2002 as Managing Director of Mindshare Fulcrum that handles the Unilever business for Mindshare. He was subsequently elevated to the position of Managing Director of Mindshare South Asia before been appointed as the South Asia CEO for GroupM. Prior to GroupM, he has worked with STAR India as Executive Vice President – Marketing, The Coca-Cola Company India as Marketing Manager and Procter & Gamble as Associate Manager Media.
