The New Indian Express Group has appointed Vignesh Kumar as Vice President – Marketing. Prior to this, he was GM - Operations at Tata Sky Ltd for three years. In his new role, Kumar will be reporting to Manoj Kumar Sonthalia, Chairman and Managing Director, The New Indian Express Group.
Speaking to exchange4media on his appointment, Kumar said, “My role and aim is to make The New Indian Express the No. 1 newspaper in the South in terms of readership. Our priority is to consolidate our position in the South where we are strong and then look at other markets.”
Kumar has 18 years’ experience in the telecom sector, where he has handled an entire gamut of operations across the South market. He began his career in 1991 as a Sales Executive with Tata Group’s Nelco (National Radio and Electronics Co Ltd). He then joined Shaw Wallace in their Electronics Division, where he worked for four years before moving on to Mobilink Paging Services. He then moved on to BPL Mobile and Airtel. Subsequently, he headed to Reliance Communications, where he worked for close to six years, his longest stint.
Kumar shared, “My career took off in Reliance with the fastest and the biggest jumps, moving from Senior Manager to the DGM level.”
He has a B.E. in Electronics and an MBA in Marketing from Madurai Kamaraj University.
