In order to be India’s pioneering Electric Vehicle solutions provider, Ultra Motor Company (UMC) of the UK, has shared its resource expansion plans for the Indian market. As a step towards strengthening its business plan, the company has made two new appointments.
V J Prakash has been appointed as Managing Director of Ultra Motor’s Indian subsidiary. Prakash was the Managing Director of the European operations of Moser Baer prior to taking up this assignment. He has also worked with brands like Bharti and Samtel, and has been involved in the development, manufacturing, sales and general management of various technology products. He is also the Chairman of the Manufacturing Competitiveness Committee, CII - Northern Region.
The second appointment is that of Ganesh Mahalingam as Director of Business Development and Sales. Mahalingam has around 20 years of experience in sales and marketing. He has worked in leadership positions with companies like Omaxe, LG, Birla and Godrej in India, besides handling key accounts and brands like Electrolux, Videocon and Modiluft. His last assignment was in the real estate business.
With these two new appointments Ultra Motor’s management is set to accelerate the launch of electric two-wheelers in the country.

VJ brings profound product development, manufacturing, general management and sales experience to UMI at a time when we are finalising the first EV launches. Ganesh will handle the Business Development of Ultra Motor in India and will be responsible for consolidating and developing customer relationships and sales. His experience in business development across many categories will be invaluable as we begin our commercialisation phase.”
Ultra Motors has targeted India and other countries in the sub-continent to launch its unique, patented, PMDC Electric Motor technology. It may also be recalled that the company had earlier appointed Deba Ghoshal as Director of Marketing and Sunil Gandhi as Director of Operations, when it had commenced its Indian subsidiary operations in the first quarter of 2006.
