Sunil Rajshekhar appointed President, Times Internet Ltd.

Sunil Rajshekhar, who had moved to Bangalore as Director-South, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL), in early April this year, is back in Delhi. He took over as President, Times Internet Ltd (TIL), last week. TIL is the BCCL subsidiary that runs all the web and online initiatives of The Times of India Group, including the highly popular Indiatimes portal.

When contacted, Rajshekhar, confirming the development, said, “I have been in the Internet space earlier. I have been brought back to strengthen the leadership of Times Internet. It is a challenging assignment as the Internet is the medium of the future, and the web is the driver of the future for the media. TOI can already take pride in its extensive multi-media content. My task will be to best leverage this strength to make Times a very strong multi-media platform in the near future.”

Prior to moving to Bangalore, Rajshekhar was heading Private Treaties, the investment division of BCCL. Under his leadership, in a span of three years, Times Private Treaties saw significant investments in a host of companies across various industries. According to sources, this division had tied up equity investments in excess of Rs 2,500 crore.

Rajshekhar began his career with The Times Group in the 80s. He was responsible for the launch of the Bangalore editions of The Times of India and The Economic Times. The Brand Equity Quiz was conceived by him. He was amongst some of the early professionals who moved into a career in the Internet space way back in 1995. He initiated the Times of India Group's Internet foray and set up their Internet division. He was amongst the early pioneers within the Times Group responsible for the launch of, one of India’s first portals.

During the dotcom boom in 1999, he left The Times Group to join an Internet start-up,, which failed to take off. He later moved on to head the interactive division of Star TV in India. He was responsible for managing Star TV’s investments in various Internet portals and verticals. He was back with The Times Group in 2004 as Director-Response, heading its Northern division. Later, he was entrusted with heading and setting up Private Treaties.
