Sumon Chattopadhyay is set to rejoin Kolkata TV as Chief Editor. It may be recalled that Chattopadhyay had quit from the same position in the Bengali news channel in June this year following some legal differences with the management. He is slated to join the channel from January 2007. Kolkata TV was launched in March 2006.
This development follows a split in the Xenitis Group, whereby Tathagatha Datta, who was Managing Director of what was till sometime back the Xenitis Group of Companies, is now the proprietor of SST Media Pvt Ltd, a group company under which Kolkata TV operates. The other activities of Xenitis, primarily the IT business, will be looked after by Shantanu Ghosh, who till recently was Chairman of the Xenitis Group of Companies.
According to sources close to the development, an out of court settlement had been initiated and Chattopadhyay was approached by Datta, who was now at the helm of the media business, to rejoin the channel.
Meanwhile, ‘Ekdin’, the weekly tabloid launched by Chattopadhyay after leaving Kolkata TV, is likely to become a daily and will henceforth continue under a new company promoted by Chattopadhyay, Disha Media Pvt Ltd, where Datta will also have a stake.
According to company sources, several other changes were afoot at Kolkata TV. Aparna Sen, the Creative Director of the channel is set to quit and join Saregama. Also Jayanta Kumar Ray, formerly a VP at Essel Corporate who had joined SST Media as CEO, has put in his papers.
