Kolkata-based Emami Group has roped in Sumit Kanungo as Vice-president, Media. Commenting on his new assignment, he said, “I have worked in all the other metros and returning to Kolkata is like coming full circle. At Emami, one of the key areas will be effectiveness and accountability in terms of media investment. The Group has very strong brands and I am looking forward to working with the brand team to ensure that media investment and strategy is more brand-centric and will bring higher media RoI.”
Kanungo has 17 years’ experience in such diverse areas like media buying, planning, marketing, media research, holistic communication planning and audit. Prior to joining Emami, he was Regional Director, Delhi at Media Pros India. Among his earlier assignments include General Manager of Mediaedge at GroupM; at CIA, Mumbai; and as General Manager of Zenith Media India, where he was responsible for spearheading the Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai operations.
Originally a cosmetic and personal care products company, the Emami Group today is a widely diversified corporation with interests in retail, writing instruments, paper mills and health care. Thus, alongside their well known brands such as Boroplus, Himani and Navratna hair oil, the Group is also associated with AMRI Hospital, Landmark Bookstore, Frank Ross chain of drugstores and several other upcoming projects in Kolkata.
