STAR names Liza Newnham as Senior VP/GM for English language channels

STAR has appointed Liza Newnham as Senior Vice-President / General Manager of its English language channels. In this newly created position, Newnham would be responsible for managing the business operations of STAR Movies and STAR World while also working to further strengthen the channel brands. Based in Hong Kong, she would be reporting to Laureen Ong, COO, STAR.

Commenting on the appointment, Ong said, “Liza is an adept media executive with strong international and Asian pay-TV experience, making her the perfect choice to run STAR Movies and STAR World as we are aggressively working to further bolster the channels’ foothold in the English language entertainment landscape. We are confident that Liza’s passion, business acumen and in-depth understanding of the industry will serve her well in spearheading these efforts.”

Newnham said, “I’m very excited at the opportunity to work with the STAR Movies and STAR World team to drive the channels towards their next phase of growth and development. The team has done a tremendous job at establishing both channels as leaders in their genres. I now look forward to working with everyone as we put our effort towards unlocking the enormous potential that is still out there.”

Newnham has extensive pay-TV experience in Asia as well as in international markets. She joined STAR in 2005 as Vice-President, Star Ventures, managing STAR’s joint venture interests in India. After that, she was named Vice-President, Ad Sales and Distribution, STAR. Before joining STAR, she has worked in business development at both FOXTEL in Australia and SKY Italia in Italy.
