STAR makes key appointments in its programming and content function team

STAR has announced some key appointments to enhance its programming and content function. Jyotsna Viriyala has been appointed as VP-Programming for STAR World India and Star Movies India. Bonny Yu has been named VP-Programming for Xing Kong, STAR’s flagship Mandarin GEC for Mainland China, while Jennifer Batty has been appointed as VP-Programming, Star World.

The three newly-appointed Programming VPs would spearhead scheduling, acquisition, and content strategies for their respective channels. Yu and Batty would be based in Hong Kong, while Viriyala would be based in Mumbai. Batty would report to Todd Lituchy, President of Entertainment, while Yu would report to Lituchy and Jack Gao, CEO, Star China. Viriyala would report to Batty and Brian Lau, VP, Programming for Star Movies.

Commenting on the appointments, Todd Lituchy said, “As a company that has redefined television in Asia, STAR is always striving to enhance the viewing experience for its audiences region wide. Bonny, Jennifer and Jyotsna are three talented and experienced television executives, each coming to us with a unique set of skills, knowledge and expertise that will serve STAR well as we continue our ongoing push to innovate and enhance our programming across the region.”

Yu joined STAR from the Walt Disney Company, where she served for nearly three years as Vice-President, Programming, Asia Pacific, for the Disney Channel. Prior to that, she held a number of roles at CETV, including most recently, Senior Vice President, Programming and Marketing. She had previously worked for STAR from 1997-99 as Programming Manager and Scheduling Manager.

Batty joined STAR from European broadcaster ViaSat, where for the last three years she served as Pay TV, Programme Director, Channel Development and was Head of Programming, Factual Pay TV. Prior to that, she had held a number of TV sales, programming and development posts with broadcasters including Discovery Europe and Alliance Atlantis.

Viriyala joined STAR from Media Content and Communication Services (India) Pvt Ltd, where she was Assistant VP, overseeing research, business strategies, operations and on-air promotions. Previously, she was Marketing and Brand Manager at ICICI’s travel venture, Traveljini.com. Before that, she had held media planning and buying positions at JWT and Fulcrum, respectively.
