Star India has appointed JC Giri as Executive Vice-President and GM- Regional Channels. He will handle the portfolio of Star’s regional channels in Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi, and see through their launches in the near future, according to an internal announcement made by Uday Shankar, CEO, Star India.
Said Shankar, “Giri takes charge of our planned portfolio of regional channels in Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi. He will be responsible for the timely and successful launches of these channels, in line with the high standards of any new launch from the STAR stable.”
Giri joins Star after a long stint at O&M, most recently as President, O&M Mumbai. He began his career with Ogilvy Chennai and has consistently moved up since then. He introduced Outdoor Media AOR in the country in 1995. He was then promoted as Country Head, Ogilvy Landscapes, and later as Country Head, Ogilvy Activation. Thereafter, he moved to Mumbai with full responsibility for Ogilvy’s 360 degree services.
Shankar further said in his announcment, “Giri’s stint as head of Ogilvy Mumbai has helped in setting a new pace for this large operation and the Ogilvy product and growth story in the last three years has been a reflection of his dynamic operating style, which is infused with high energy and creative levels which have set new benchmarks for the agency.”
Giri will report to Shankar, and will be based at Star House, Mumbai.
