Shubhodip Pal, who was the Assistant Vice President, Head-Sponsorship and Communication with ABN Amro Bank, has put an end to his year-and-a-half tenure with the bank and is now set to join Hewlett Packard as Head of Marketing-Consumer (Personal Systems Group).
Pal will assume his duties from next week and will be reporting to Shuchi Sarkar, Head of Marketing-SMB (PSG) HP India. His new role will entail him to drive the consumer business in HP for both Pavilion and Compaq desktops and notebooks. Pal cited “challenging role and personal career growth” as some of the reasons for taking up his new assignment.
Commenting on the challenges ahead, Pal said, “It is definitely challenging. The Internet penetration in India is progressing rapidly. Therefore the need of personal computers in every home is becoming important across a wide audience. Getting into homes at this juncture will carry forward and propel the company’s growth. It is just a matter of time when the boom happens and that is when the first mover’s advantage, which HP is progressing towards, will reap results.”
Pal started his career with Samsung India Electronics where he had a nine-year stint with major roles to play. He started out as Senior Executive-Marketing and was looking after the audio-visual business. After a year, he was handling the marketing communications of audio-visual and home appliances. The following year, Pal was given the charge to additionally look after the mobile phone business.
At the time of quitting Samsung Electronics, he was the Senior Manager-Marketing for audio-visual, home appliances and mobile phone businesses, coupled with additional responsibilities of handling the Samsung brand. He was in charge of the complete media portfolio of the company, as also the consolidation of the brand’s spends and returns-on-investment. He was also responsible for all brand endorsements and sports marketing initiatives.
Pal was instrumental in the planning and implementation of award winning promotions like ‘Phod Ke Dekho’, ‘Dabake Jeeto’, ‘Pinning Toh Winning’ and more.
Having worked with various industries from consumer durables to the banking sector, and now moving on to computer hardware sector, Pal said about his transition, “The learning has been tremendous with the wide array of marketing experiences that I have had across various industries, and this will enable me to perform better. Since technology is the backbone of any industry and will thereby continue to be an industry with dynamism, I am glad to be part of it.”
