Lot of exciting things are happening in the retail sector, especially with the biggest retailer Pantaloon Retail. According to informed sources, the most recent development in the company had been the elevation of Sanjeev Agrawal as President – Marketing, Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd with immediate effect.
According to sources within the company, Agrawal had been heading the marketing function for the past two years and this elevation was in line with the expectations of Agrawal playing a much bigger and important role within the group as also its foray into new sectors.
Among advertising circles, Pantaloon is considered an aggressive advertiser with a kitty of nearly Rs 100 crore of advertising budget in the next year; also its foray into electronic advertising has made it a national level advertiser.
Agrawal is an FMCG veteran having spent near a decade in companies like HLL, P&G, Godrej before making a switch to the retail side. Known in industry circles as media shy and a quiet performer, Agrawal along with his team has spearheaded the marketing efforts of Pantaloons in the past two years.
Industry observers believed that the mood in Pantaloon was upbeat with aggressive hiring of talent from the industry as well as internal promotions. Reacting to the news, an industry veteran commented that today Pantaloon Retail brand was the biggest and one of the most innovative players in the retail space, surely a great marketing effort must have gone in building the same.
