Sanjaya Baru takes charge as Editor of Business Standard

Sanjaya Baru has taken charge as the new Editor of Business Standard from January 1, 2010. He succeeds TN Ninan, who has been the Editor since July 1993. Ninan will continue to lead the organisation as Chairman and Editorial Director of Business Standard Ltd.

Dr Baru has had a successful career in academics, journalism and public service. He has previously been Editor of Financial Express, media advisor to the Prime Minister, and professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. He had joined the business daily in October 2009.

It may be recalled that exchange4media had reported in August 2009 that Baru was joining Business Standard from October 2009 as Consulting Editor and that he would succeed Ninan as Editor wef January 1, 2010.

When contacted in August, Ninan told had exchange4media, “Sixty is the retirement age in the company. This decision was impending. I’d have had to retire and I have done that.”
