Sanjay Thapar moves to Bates India as CEO

Three months after two of its senior leaders Sonal Dabral, Regional Creative Director, Asia Pacific and India Chairman and Sandeep Pathak, CEO, Bates India quit, WPP has asked Sanjay Thapar, Group President, North & East, Ogilvy & Mather to lead the agency operations in India. Thapar has been designated the role of CEO, Bates India. Sanjay Thapar confirmed the news to exchange4media.

Prateek Srivastava, Group President, South, Ogilvy & Mather has been given the additional role overseeing Ogilvy North operations. He was so far managing Ogilvy’s operations in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.



It may be recalled that immediately after the two exits, Ranjan Kapur, Country Head, WPP India had agreed with the regional management of Bates Asia to step into the role of Chairman for the company. It was additional to his role as WPP India Head.

During the same time, in an interview with exchange4media, Tim Isaac, Regional Head of Bates Asia had said, “To lose one top manager is unfortunate, to lose two is careless, but it will be fine. This is an opportunity for us to put the right leadership in place. Having one CEO would help clear up any ambiguity regarding the leadership at Bates in India.
