Sanjay Bragta ‘returns’ to Sahara Samay’s fold

Barely three weeks after ‘quitting’ as Executive Producer of Sahara Group’s national Hindi news channel Samay, along with channel head Punya Prasoon Bajpai and six other key editorial people, Sanjay Bragta is back with the channel.

Confirming this develpment, Bragta said, “Yes, I am back in my previous capacity as Executive Producer.” Giving a different twist to the development, Sumit Roy, advisor for Sahara News, said, “Bragta had not resigned. He has all through been with us. He was on leave.” Bragta, too, is saying that he had not tendered his resignation, but was simply not coming to office. However, it may be mentioned that when exchange4media had carried the story about Bragta quitting along with Punya Prasoon Bajpai and six other editorial people, neither he nor the Sahara Group had denied it.

Meanwhile, Bragta has not been given his old portfolio of Head of Input. During his absence, this portfolio was given to Vipin Dhulia, whereas Puneet Kumar was entrusted with the responsibility of Head of Output after the departure of Senior EP and Output Head, NP Singh.

So, in the new scheme of things, who is heading the channel after the departure of Punya Prasoon Bajpai? Sumit Roy replied, “I am the channel head.” Then what would be Bragta’s role? To this, Bragta replied, “I have been asked to coordinate with the heads of input and output. I will also be doing two shows – a one hour prime time news show and a weekend interview based show.” Earlier, too, he was doing an hour-long prime time news show ‘Saath Minute, Saara Desh’.

Meanwhile, amidst these developments, Sahara News bosses are struggling to push up the channel’s TRP, which has further plummeted to below 4 per cent.
