Sangeeta Talwar has joined Tata Tea as Executive Director. She would be steering the company’s marketing and sales efforts. Talwar’s previous assignment was with Mattel where worked for two years as CEO, handling the South Asian market for the toy giant. The Tata Tea stint follows a one-year sabbatical after she left Mattel.
A global tea major, Tata Tea has a significant presence in over 35 countries worldwide, thus making it one of the first truly Indian multinational corporations. With her substantial international experience, Talwar will be responsible for creating a global footprint for Tata Tea. She would also be responsible for building and leveraging Tata Tea’s Tetley business in India. Talwar will be stationed at the Tata Tea head office in Kolkata.
A marketing graduate from IIM-Kolkata, Talwar started her career with Nestle India in marketing, where she was instrumental in launching the Maggi brand. Subsequently, she went on to head Nestle India’s marketing operations as executive Vice-president.
In recognition of her professional and leadership skills, Talwar was invited to join Nestle’s international HQ in Switzerland as Marketing Advisor on the coffee, confectionary and biscuits businesses. She came back to India to steer a joint venture that Nestle had formed with Dabur in the biscuits business, before joining Mattel.
Says Talwar, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm and I believe in timely results. If you want to leave your footprints in the sands of time, you can’t drag your feet.”
