Sandip Dang, COO, Fresh and Honest Café, joins Avesta Good Earth Food as CEO

Sandip Dang, COO, Fresh and Honest Café, has joined Avesta Good Earth Food Pvt Ltd, part of Avestha Gengraine Technologies Pvt Ltd (Avesthagen) as CEO, from March 8, 2006. He had joined the Sterling group in 2004, as COO of the Barista business.

Speaking to exchange4media, Dang said, “It is a very exciting business to be in, a business with a huge future.”

The IIM graduate began his career with Britannia in 1986, and spent five years with the company before moving to Cadbury’s. Thereafter, he was with the India Today group (1994-96), and joined RPG Cellular in 1996. In 2000, he shifted to the Saregama business of the RPG Group, before moving to the Sterling Group as COO, Barista, in June 2004.

In January 2005, he took on his last role at Sterling as COO, Fresh and Honest Café. He will have a key role to play in Avesthagen’s foray into the branded nutraceuticals space.

Avesta Good Earth Food is listed among the new lines of business at Avesthagen. The company site states that AGEF “will play a key role in Avesthagen’s long-term strategy to launch its branded nutraceuticals as Functional Foods targeting the burgeoning health foods market in India”. AGEF is described as an Indian food company with global ambitions, dedicated to developing nutritious alternatives for breakfast, daily snacks, and functional food.

Avesthagen is backed by investors like ICICI Ventures, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Tata Industries, Godrej Industries, Cipla Ltd (from India), and bioMérieux, France.
