Sameer Kapoor quits Metro Now as President; to join NDTV Group in senior function

Sameer Kapoor, President, Metropolitan Media Company Pvt Ltd, has put in his papers. Metropolitan Media Company is a 50:50 JV between The Times of India and HT Media. Confirming his movement, Kapoor said, “I am joining NDTV, but cannot disclose the exact role and designation.”

Meanwhile, sources close to the development have said that Sidhant Khosla, Director, Corporate Group, Bennett, Coleman and Co Ltd, would take over from Kapoor. However, no confirmation on this was forthcoming at the time of filing this report.

Kapoor had joined Metro Now in September 2006 and was responsible for publishing Metro Now in Delhi NCR. He had also set up the company from scratch, built a team, got the processes and systems in place and launched the daily tabloid, which now claims to have a circulation of over 2.5 lakh copies.

Giving the reason for his decision to quit, Kapoor said, “I am moving on because of better prospects and the betterment of my career. I am emotionally attached to Metro Now as it is my baby and wish it all the success in future.”

Prior to joining Metro Now, Kapoor was with The Scholastic Corporation, an American book publishing company as Managing Director in 2004. Before Scholastic, he had worked with various consumer durable companies where he worked in marketing and sales. These included Ray Ban, Whirlpool, and Carrier, among others. His last stint in the marketing and sales field before joining the media domain was with Carrier Aircon Ltd, where he was Director, Marketing & Product Development.
