Sajal Mukherjee joins Emami as VP, Media

Sajal Mukherjee, a veteran in the media industry, has joined Emami Ltd as Vice President - Media. On his new role, Mukherjee said, “I am very happy to join the group, it’s expanding and growing, creating strong brand portfolio.”

He further said that his experience in media planning, buying, research, consultancy, training and education would help him in his new assignment. He is also very positive that, “The association and environment in this organisation, will bring out best of my three decades of advertising and media experience.”

During his three decade long career, Mukherjee has worked in many leading organisations, including Ananda Bazar Group, Mudra Communication, JWT, RK Swamy BBDO, Rediffusion Y&R, Clarion and Contract Advertising. He has initiated and led various media functions in these organisations and developed strategic business plans for clients, agencies and media companies. Besides, he has also been involved in training and development of working professionals, and was associated with various academic institutions as visiting professor.

He was the Founder Director of Futuristix Media Communication Center in Delhi (2004), an advertising, media & marketing institute. He was also associated with IIMC Delhi, IIFT Delhi, Modi Management Institute Modinagar, JP Business School, Noida, Times School of Marketing Delhi as Visiting and Adjunct Faculty.

His industry experience includes setting up Media Direction in RK Swamy BBDO, Media Edge in Rediffusion Y&R, lead media functions in JWT, and Mudra Communications.

His work in the industry has also won him many accolades. He has won advertising awards for Media Innovation for Oral B Tooth Brush. Other prominent campaigns that he has worked on include Nestle Polo - the innovative ‘Mint with a Hole’ ad, which actually had a hole punched in the daily; ICI Paints campaign, which took into consideration the fact that Gujarat was a very important market, and so on Holi the front page of Sandesh featured the ad plus splashes of color on the text of the front page to mark festival of colours without any additional cost, giving the brand got instant recall.

He has won various media innovation awards for the clients and agency, and has trained and lead a strong team in Rediffusion, Mudra, JWT, R K Swamy/BBDO, Oxygen Communications.

Mukherjee has had the privilege of having been trained under and worked with various legends in the industry like Mr Subhash Ghosal, Mr. Shubroto Sengupta, Mr. Arthur Sturgees and many such teachers.

The companies he worked with are : Ananda Bazar Group of Publications in Ad Sales 1982-87; Clarion Advertising as Media Planner 1987-88; Contract Advertising 1989; Mudra Communication 1990-mid 1994 as Manager Planning; JWT 1994-95 as Media Director; RK Swamy BBDO 1996-97, Rediffusion 1998-2001, as VP - Media.

During his career, he has worked on clients like Nestle, HLL, Hero Group, Maruti, Hindustan Motors, Jagatjit Industries, Honda City, Oral-B, ICI Paints, Escorts, IFB Bosch, Usha FANS, Unicef, Population Services International etc to name a few.

In his media consultancy firm – Quantum, he has worked with clients like Amar Ujala Group, Zee News, Sakal Group, Delhi press etc.

In 2004, he co-founded Media, Advertising and Journalism institute in Delhi, called Futristix Media Communication Center, imparting one year Diploma in Advertising & Marketing, Journalism, which operated for five years till 2009.

From 2009 onwards he was involved as a consultant with Oxygen Communication, a creative agency looking into pitching for new business and working on new revenue areas.
