Sahara One appoints Nilanjana Purkayastha as Business Head; Anita Noronha is Marketing Head

Sahara One has beefed up its senior management even as it loses a key senior member. Nilanjana Purkayastha and Anita Noronha have come on board as Business Head and Marketing Head, respectively. Meanwhile, Programming Head Kalyan Sundaram has put in his papers.

Purkayastha would be reporting to Seemanto Roy, Head, Sahara One Entertainment Business, while Noronha would be reporting to Purkayastha.

Commenting on her new role, Purkayastha said, “I will be overseeing all channel functions – programming, marketing, promotion, strategic planning, revenue, etc. It is an exciting and challenging role. Sahara One has consistently delivered with its prime time fiction and has huge potential for further growth, and, therefore, attractive to someone like me. Also, personally, the role of Business Head is exciting, especially in these times when TV is seeing such expansion.”

Prior to this, Purkayastha was associated with NDTV Imagine. On her decision to quit NDTV Imagine, she said, “After we launched NDTV Imagine at 3rd place, I felt the need to explore new grounds and look for personal growth and seek new challenges.”

Purkayastha was earlier with Star Plus as Creative Director before joining NDTV Imagine in 2007.

Anita Noronha moves from Reliance Entertainment, where she was GM, Marketing, for Big Flicks. On her decision to join Sahara, Noronha said, “My role here will be larger and more challenging. The television category here is different as it relates to direct consumer as an in-home choice of entertainment.”

Noronha brings with her nearly 21 years’ experience. Her previous assignments were with UTV Motions Pictures and the Lintertainment, the marketing vertical of Lintas IMAG (Integrated Marketing Action Group). She spent 16 years in advertising in the client servicing side of the business with agencies like Mudra, Contract and Lintas.

Amid these two key appointments, Sahara One has lost Kalyan Sundaram, who has put in his papers as Head of Programming, citing “seeking better opportunities” as his reason to quit. He, however, has not decided on his destination next.

Sundaram has 20 years’ experience and has been associated with channels like MTV, B4U and Zee Arabia in Dubai.
