Roy Cherian quits Nestle; to join UB Group as Head-Marketing for beer division

Nestle India’s Group Product Manager, Roy Cherian, has put in his papers and is set to join Vijay Mallya’s UB Group as Vice-president, Marketing, United Breweries Limited, also referred to as the Beer Division. Cherian will handle marketing for the entire beer portfolio of UB. Sources close to the development said he is expected to join in early January 2007.

For his new assignment Cherian will move to Bangalore. United Breweries produces around 60 million cases of beer annually and has close to 50 per cent market share. UB is the world’s second largest brewer and the largest in India. The company markets most of its beer under the Kingfisher brand name.

At Nestle, Cherian was handling marketing for chocolates and confectionaries. Before that he was Nestle’s Media Manager. He moved to marketing after Ritu Raizada joined Nestle as Media Manager in November 2004. He has spent seven years with Nestle.

Prior to Nestle, Cherian was with FCB-Ulka where he had a six-year stint, including three years as Media Director. He handled a variety of brands like LML, HP, Tropicana juices, Whirlpool, Usha among others. He has also worked with Feedback Venture, a management consulting firm, for two years.
