Ravi Krishnan quits IMG to join a real estate group as India Head

Ravi Krishnan, who was in the news during the recent Lakme Fashion Week, has put in his papers as Managing Director, IMG/TWI South Asia and Senior Vice-President, IMG. Krishnan is joining a large real estate group as its India Head after an 11-year tenure with IMG. The real estate group, which is primarily based in Australia and Israel, is establishing a dedicated India specific multi-million dollar fund.

Krishnan will, however, continue his involvement with IMG as an Advisor for sports, fashion and entertainment. Krishnan had postponed his planned move to April 2006 in order to manage the Lakme Fashion Week. He is credited with leading IMG in India to great heights and creating an unmatched portfolio of premium properties across the sports, fashion and entertainment sectors.

Commenting on his tenure with IMG, Krishnan said, “It has been a privilege to lead a great company and a tremendous group of people and to play a role in the growth of an industry in India. I am excited about my continued involvement with IMG in an advisory role. It was a great challenge to grow the business in an exciting and key sector in India’s growing economy. I look forward to a similar effort in the equally challenging and emerging area of real estate.”

Krishnan will be joining an Australian/Israeli group of investors, which is setting up an India-focused fund that will initially commit $100 million for investment in the real estate sector.

Andrew Wildblood, Senior Corporate Director, IMG India, said, “We respect Ravi’s decision and would like to thank him for his terrific contribution to IMG, and also his agreement to continue his association and advise us in key areas. We have high regard for the professionalism and integrity that he has exhibited throughout his career at IMG. His achievements include taking IMG in India to great heights in all our business divisions. We wish Ravi well in his new role and thank him for his exemplary work at IMG.”

A lawyer by training, Krishnan was part of a four-member team that was sent in 1995 to set up IMG’s operations in India. During his tenure there, IMG created landmark and successful properties such the Chennai Open, India’s only ATP event, the Lakme India Fashion Week and then the Lakme Fashion Week, the country’s largest lifestyle and media events that have put India on the global fashion map.

Krishnan moved rapidly up the ranks since joining IMG. Beyond his geographic responsibility, he also had the divisional responsibility for developing IMG’s fashion business throughout Asia Pacific. Apart from exclusively marketing and implementing the Lakme India Fashion Week and then Lakme Fashion Week in Asia, IMG has been involved with the Shanghai International Fashion Week, the Singapore Fashion Festival and the Thailand Supermodel Search.
