Ramesh Praba joins Kalaignar Network as President

Chennai-based Kalaignar TV Network has appointed Ramesh Praba as President. He is assuming charge from February 6, 2012, reporting to the Board of Directors. In his new role, Praba will be responsible for overseeing the overall organisational functions, including programming, marketing, administration, and technical, heading the entire network consisting of six channels – Kalaignar TV (GEC), Isaiaruvi TV (music), Seithigal (news), Sirippoli TV (comedy), Chithiram TV (kids’), and the recently launched Murasu TV (GEC). Speaking to exchange4media, Praba said, “My priority is to regain the No. 2 position in the Tamil-GEC space immediately and aim for the No. 1 position in the long run.”

Prior to this, Praba, an entrepreneur, had occupied the post of Chairman and Managing Director at the Galaxy Group of Companies for the last 18 years. He began his career with Clarion Advertising Services as an account planner in 1986. In 1990, he moved to Ulka Advertising (now Draftfcb Ulka) as account supervisor. After working here for a two-year period, he joined Dattaram Advertising as Brand Manager, thereafter turning entrepreneur in 1995 as CMD of the Galaxy Group of Companies.

In a career spanning 27 years, he has been involved in the domains of marketing, advertising, journalism, production, education, rural marketing, political marketing, and media launches. In the course of his career, he has been closely associated with the Sun TV Network as well as Kalaignar TV Network since inception in the capacity of anchor, director and producer. He was also responsible for the successful re-launch of Tamil daily Dinakaran and magazine Kungumam. He was behind the success of popular brands such as Sakthi Masala, Lalitha Jewellery, and Shriram Chits. He is an advisor to Puthiya Thalaimurai magazine and TV and has also authored 10 books on education and business.
