Rajiv Nambiar, till very recently the CEO of Raj TV Network, has joined Malar Publications Ltd, publishers of evening daily ‘Malai Malar’, as COO. He will be in-charge of the group’s FM radio foray. Nambiar took on his new role at Malar on March 9, after almost 10 years at the Raj TV Network. He will report into S Balasubramaniam Adityan, Managing Director, Malar Publications Ltd.
Malar Publications is in talks with strategic investors, following its successful bid for seven FM radio licenses in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The company disclosed recently that it had plans to invest Rs 72 crore in the FM radio business.
Confirming the move, Nambiar said, “The mandate is to implement the project, commission it, and thereafter, run the seven stations. I see it as a tremendous opportunity, in a highly charged work environment. After seven to eight years in print, and over nine in television, I thought this is also an opportunity where I could continue my specialisation within the media, this time with radio.”
Nambiar began his career in sales in 1986, and joined the Times of India group in 1989. He moved to Jain TV in 1995, and thereafter to Raj Television Network, in October 1996. His last designation there was CEO, where he was heading the group’s three channels – Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus, and Vissa TV.
On his long stint with Raj TV, Nambiar said, “It was a rewarding experience for both. I am emotionally tied with the brand, and have a huge amount of regard for the management there. There came a stage where I felt I could not pursue my vision, and then came this opportunity.”
