Reliance Industries has zeroed in on the first CEO for its retail venture. If the buzz in the industry is anything to go by, poster boy of consumer electronics Rajeev Karwal is slated to join Mukesh Ambani's retail venture as the CEO of the consumer durables division.
Market sources reveal that Karwal would be in charge of the entire durable division of Reliance retail involving appliances, electronics, telecom, computer software & hardware and photography.
He will have the responsibility of the division which will source and merchandise products at Reliance's hypermarkets and specialty consumer durable stores.
Insiders said Reliance is in negotiations with many senior executives in the retail industry as well as in the FMCG industry.
Apart from Mr Karwal, market sources reveal that Reliance is also in talks with a senior Indian in the Unilever system outside India to come in as chief executive of its food & grocery division.
Also honcho of a south India based jewellery retail major is believed to be in talks for heading Reliance retail's jewellery division.
