R Gowthaman elevated to MD, MindShare India; Sundar Raman to take on intl portfolio in the Network

MindShare, part of GroupM, has announced the appointment of R Gowthaman as Managing Director of MindShare India. Prior to this, Gowthaman was MD for the West and South India operations of MindShare. On the other hand, Sundar Raman was MD of MindShare for North and East. Officials from MindShare inform that Raman would now take on an international portfolio, which would be announced by MindShare’s APAC CEO, Ashutosh Srivastava, in due course.

This brings back the one-MD structure of MindShare that was changed to a two-MD agency in mid-2006, when Vikram Sakhuja, the then MD of MindShare South Asia was elevated to COO, GroupM, South Asia.

Speaking on the development, Sakhuja said, “Sundar would be moving to an international position that would be announced in due course. We are in the handover process at present, following which Gowthaman would be MD for MindShare India. The change should be in effect by mid-November this year.”

Prior to moving in as MD of Mindshare, Gowthaman has been Head of Fulcrum and has been responsible for its growth since 1999. Raman, on the other hand, has been leading the businesses of Mindshare in Delhi.

MindShare India is a powerhouse in the network, in terms of growth of diversified services such as branded entertainment, data analytics, digital media and brand activation. It is viewed as the premier media agency in South Asia. MindShare is a global media investment management company with billings in excess of $21.5 billion (source: RECMA). The network consists of 95 offices in 65 countries throughout the US, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific.

GroupM, a full service media investment management operation, was created by WPP Group to oversee its assets in this sector. These assets include MindShare, Mediaedge:cia, MediaCom and Maxus.
