Prasoon Joshi appointed Executive Chairman of McCann Erickson India

Prasoon Joshi has been appointed Executive Chairman of McCann Erickson India. It may be noted that Santosh Desai, the agency’s President, has resigned from the company to start his own consultancy. Commenting on the development, Sorab Mistry, Regional Director, McCann Worldgroup for South and South East Asia, said that McCann global and the regional management recognised Joshi’s contribution to the growth of McCann India and were delighted with his new role as Executive Chairman. He added that Joshi’s impact on the India advertising industry was legendary and held even greater promise.

All McCann India operations will report to Joshi, who will in turn report to Mistry.

Desai’s decision to leave McCann follows extensive discussions with McCann’s regional and global management, who have accepted his resignation with regret. Mistry said that the company respected Desai’s decision and recognised him for his contributions to the McCann India operations. “We completely understand Santosh’s motivations for wanting to spread his business wings and we wish him the very best of good fortune,” he added.

Joshi is credited with turning the fortunes of many big brands, the most outstanding recent examples being those of the Coca-Cola ‘Thanda’ campaign, Nescafe, Perfetti (Chlormint, Happydent), Microsoft, HLL (Pears), MasterCard and local brands such as Dabur and NDTV. He has won more than 300 advertising awards, including the Gold Lions at Cannes, AdFest Asia, Media Spikes, Cresta, honours at The One Show and Clios and a cache of national awards in India.

Joshi has represented India on international award forums like New York Festivals, London International Awards as well as the Clios, D&AD and Cannes juries. His creativity is not limited to advertising, but finds expression in other fields as well. He is also a well-published author and lyricist for Bollywood blockbusters and popular music charts.
