Pudhari Publications, publisher of Marathi newspaper ‘Pudhari’, has roped in Pranab Majumdar as CEO. Majumdar has in the past worked with The Times of India for 21 years, where his last position was that of Response and Branch Head for Pune.
Confirming the news to exchange4media, Majumdar said, “I have spent a long time in TOI and will credit most of my learning to the organisation. At Pudhari, it is a new world that I have stepped into and will work towards making it the number one newspaper of Maharasthra and a brand people will look up to. We are expanding the brand to make it a pan-Maharashtra paper and will hopefully achieve our target in the next three years.”
Prior to TOI, Majumdar had worked with PolyGram International (now known as Universal Music). He had also worked with Amrita Bazar Patrika and Jugantar in Kolkata.
Pudhari was launched in 1937 and has been growing to the current combined total circulation of over 483,262 (ABC certified) copies of 10 different editions. The main edition from Kolhapur, along with editions from Sangli, Satara, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Belgaum, and Panaji, have been instrumental in making this newspaper a leader not only in Western and Southern Maharashtra, but in Northern Karnataka and Goa as well. According to Naval Toshniwal, Group Marketing Head, Pudhari, the significant achievement of this media group was that it had achieved the No. 1 position in terms of circulation in Nagar, Sangli, Satara, besides Kolhapur.
