ibibo Group has announced the appointment of Rammohan Sundaram as CEO of its advertising business – ibiboAds. Prior to joining ibiboAds, Sundaram was Chairman & MD at PlatformPlay Media Ventures, which has now been fully merged with Smile Vun Group’s (SVG) Precision Match. Earlier, SVG had held majority stake in the company.
ibiboAds is an affiliate network platform and has recently forayed into the retargeting space. The retargeting product and the affiliate network platform is currently used by ibibo Group’s internal e-commerce advertisers such as Goibibo.com and redBus.in.
Commenting on the development, Ashish Kashyap, Group CEO, ibibo said, “All our internal e-commerce organisations have immensely benefited from the ibiboAds platform. We want to now expand our retargeting platform to external e-commerce players in the market. We are very excited to get Ram to partner with us on the ibiboAds initiative. We believe that in Ram we have an entrepreneur and leader who understands the online advertising business well enough to scale it.”
Sundaram has been a serial entrepreneur with two initiatives in the recent past, one being NetworkPlay, which was acquired by the Bertelsmann Group, and more recently PlatformPlay, which has been merged with SVG Media’s Precision Match. The teams have also been fully merged with the SVG teams, informed Sundaram.
On his new role, he said, “I am excited about this opportunity, given that I always wanted to build out a platform that has potential to globally scale. I am extremely confident of building out the best possible Retargeting and Behavioural Targeting platform in the next couple of quarters. The team is talented and has built a great affiliate business and I am really looking forward to scale the platform.”
Sundaram has previously worked at firms such as Yahoo India, Tribal DDB, Madison Communications, Jobsahead.com (Monster World Wide Company), Encore Events, Microland Group and Indian Express.
