Pavan Varshnei likely to join Business Today as Publishing Director, quits Insight

Pavan Varshnei, Head, Insight has decided to move on and explore other avenues within the industry. Sources inform that after a stint of almost a decade, Varshnei is headed to the publishing side of the industry. Varshnei is likely to join the Business Group of India Today Group as Publishing Director of Business Today. He will also be responsible for Golf Digest, Time and Fortune, which are also published by the group.

The post at India Today had seen some action when in March, as a result of organisational restructuring where Bagga was elevated to look at India Today mega brand as well as the business group. Satish Menon, President, Sales and Marketing, Sahara TV group was supposed to take on the responsibility in April. However, Menon was unable to keep the appointment and Ashish Bagga, who is Publishing Director, India Today Megabrand, assumed the dual role of Publishing Director and Head of Business Group. Varshnei is expected to join in next few weeks and take on the responsibility before the associate publisher of Business Today,Barun Das leaves for London in August on a short-term chevening scholarship.

Varshnei had joined this post at Insight, as a result of S Yesudas’ departure from Insight on March 16, 2004. Lintas Media group elevated Varshnei with immediate effect, explaining that he was identified due to his capabilities and experience.

Prior to this responsibility, Varshnei was heading Lowe 1, Delhi, and the agency’s Delhi unit, which handles Maruti among other brands. He was moved to head Intellect in the month of February. Varshnei has spent most of his time in the Client Servicing division of the agency. He is a management graduate from the Asian Institute of Management and a Chevening Scholar from London School of Economics.

At the time of filing the story online, neither Lynn de Souza of Lintas nor Ashish Bagga of India Today group were available for comments.
