Paritosh Joshi quits STAR CJ

After 27 years of being in the marketing and media business, Paritosh Joshi has decided to don the entrepreneurial hat. For the last seven years, Joshi has been with STAR India, his latest assignment being the CEO of STAR CJ Network, the joint venture between STAR India and Korea’s CJ.

It is understood that a replacement for this role is still not identified. It would be decided in the next board meeting of the company.

In Joshi’s words, he is now in the ‘stealth mode’. He will announce more on his venture at a later stage. But two industries high on his agenda right now are in the space of measurement sciences and e-commerce. He said, “These are the ideas that I am toying with right now but I will share details when the time is right.”

As is known, Joshi was very closely associated with the Readership Studies Council in India (RSCI), working on its technical committee and with Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

Lynn de Souza, Chairperson, RSCI has confirmed that Joshi will continue with his role at the RSCI.

While his exit from STAR CJ could mean that he may not continue with his role with Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), it remains to be seen whether he would still be with BARC.

Punit Goenka, Chairperson, BARC shared that though he would like Joshi’s role with BARC to continue, it cannot in the current scenario as everyone on the BARC board has to be an IBF nominee. So if he leaves the broadcast industry and is not on the IBF board, he cannot be with BARC but if STAR keeps him on the IBF board, he will stay with BARC.

In a conversation with exchange4media, Joshi said, “Both RSCI and BARC are very close to my heart and something that I would like to work on. In fact, now I can be fully involved with both.”

Completing his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, Joshi joined the STAR India Network as the President – Advertising Sales and Distribution in August 2005 and then went on to become the CEO of the home shopping network of the group.

He began his career in 1985 as a product executive with Procter & Gamble (then Richardson Hindustan) and after a five-year stint with the company went on to become a product manager.
