Nilesh Thakkar joins TV9 as SVP, Sales & Marketing

Nilesh Thakkar has come aboard as Senior VP, Sales and Marketing at TV9, ABCL – Associated Broadcasting Company Pvt Ltd. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President - Sales at Mahuaa Network, a post he had held since April 2011. In his new role, Thakkar will be reporting to Clifford Perreira, Director and Network Revenue Head.

Talking of his past experience, he recalled, “I was fortunate to sell KBC for the first time on 2 regional channels.” His experience, he shared has been “Maharastra specific”, and he was involved in Chitralekha Marathi/Gujarati, spent 3yrs with Zee Marathi, Bangla and Gujarati, 5 years at Star Majha as channel head, Star News and Star Ananda.

Twelve years out of his total career span of over 19 years, were with various channels, while seven years were spent in print media (Manorama, Dalal Street Journal, Chitralekha).

On his new role, Thakkar said, “Handling Maharashtra’s channel – TV9 will be like coming back to home ground. We will be expanding to new markets across India, beyond the 4 metros. There will be a focus on selling to corporate clients along with verticals, events/afp/ground activation. It will be providing 360 solutions to clients.” He went on to say, “In February 2012 there’s Maharashtra elections coming up, so that will be the right opportunity to encash on. For any news channel elections is a big property.”

According to him, “Regional share is growing fast. Regional business is a sure way to generate revenue for any channel; you can see that revenue of some channels have crossed Rs 150 crore. The market here is huge and offers its own benefits.”
