Neville Taraporewalla calls it quits at Yahoo! India

Neville Taraporewalla, Country General Manager, Yahoo! India has put in his papers. This comes eight months after George Zacharias was brought in from Sify as Managing Director of Yahoo! India. Taraporewalla was reporting to Zacharias.

When asked, Taraporewalla confirmed the development but refused to reveal his future plans. He is currently serving his notice period at Yahoo! India.

Taraporewalla had joined Yahoo! India as Sales Director in May 2002 and was made the Country General Manager in 2003. He led Yahoo! India from the front, leading it to greater heights. Yahoo! Podcast and Yahoo! Answers were rolled out during his tenure.

His decision to use Malaika Arora as brand ambassador for Yahoo! Mail caught everybody’s attention. Taraporewalla also laid extra focus on Yahoo! India’s content. He brought in Sunil Gavaskar to write a special column and Podcast exclusively for the revamped Yahoo! India Cricket site.

While with The Times of India, Taraporewalla had set up the new media division – Times Interactive. In 1998, when the web was spreading its net in India, he led the Times Group’s foray into the digital world and thus was born. However, he soon left Times Group to join Mid-Day Multimedia as COO, from where he joined Yahoo! India.
