Mindshare India beefs up senior management to fructify new structure

The recent restructuring at Mindshare India has seen the organisation make three senior level appointments as Partner, Client Leaders in the last few weeks. Mindshare had recently undergone rebranding to reflect the new structure, and changes are seen even in the designations of the agency.

R Gowthaman is now Leader, Mindshare South Asia in the new structure from the earlier MD, Mindshare South Asia. The agency is divided into the functions of ‘Business Planning’, ‘Invention’ and ‘Exchange’, and stitching up these three functions together is the ‘Client Leadership’ function.

In this week, Mindshare India has appointed three Partners, Clients Leaders. Chanchal Chakrabarti takes over as Partner, Client Leader for Team PepsiCo. He would also be looking after the non-Unilever business in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Ajit Gurnani has been appointed Partner, Client Leader for Team Aditya Birla Group. Mindshare had recently announced the appointment of Ravi Rao as Partner, Client Leader for Team Unilever, South Asia. All Partner, Client Leaders would be reporting to Gowthaman.

Chakrabarti joins Mindshare India from Mindshare Malaysia effective November 1. In his stint at the helm of MindShare Malaysia, he had led the agency to three consecutive wins in the Malaysian Media Awards, winning Agency of the Year for 2006, 2007, and 2008, and also the Grand Prix.

Over the past few weeks, Gurnani has been instrumental in setting up the processes and structures for this unit. He was working as Marketing Head at Al Ain National Juice and Refreshments Co, Sharjah, before joining Mindshare. He has over 15 years’ experience in the media and marketing business across multiple categories and has played the roles of both client and agency.

Speaking on the slew of new appointments, Gowthaman said that more announcements were expected soon. He added, “This is in line with our plans of giving a concrete form to the restructuring that Mindshare embarked globally earlier in the year. The role of the Client Leader is to stitch up the disciplines of ‘Business Planning’, ‘Invention’ and

‘Exchange’. We have to do this for all of our top clients, and so we would be adding more expertise at the senior level to the agency as we move forward.”

Gowthaman further said, “We are working towards building a good set of Client Leaders and back it up with a good team of Business Planners, Inventors and Exchangers.”
