Mid-Day has announced the appointment of Shishir Joshi as Group Editorial Director. Joshi comes in from TV Today where he was Executive Editor and Mumbai Bureau Chief. Joshi would be part of the Mid-Day top management team and would report to Managing Director Tariq Ansari.
As is known, Mid-Day is present in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, and will soon have a major presence across digital media. This is where Joshi’s TV experience would become very valuable in driving a multi-city, multi-media product.
Commenting on his new assignment, Joshi said, “I am extremely excited about joining Mid-Day as Group Editorial Director. In its multi-media space, Mid-Day is an undisputed brand leader. With technology expanding and shrinking the world, Mid-Day has the best possible leadership model in the multi-media space through its various verticals. I am looking forward to creating a synergy between its various newspapers, radio and Internet media, apart from exploring the satellite space.”
Talking about his experience at TV Today, Joshi said, “It has been a fantastic experience working with TV Today, and as Aaj Tak’s Western region head. Retaining Aaj Tak’s number one position during my stint would not have been possible without a fabulous team.”
At TV Today, Joshi managed the Western India editorial operations for all four channels -- Aaj Tak, Headlines Today, Tez and Delhi Aaj Tak. He has nearly two decades of journalistic experience, spread almost equally between newspapers and broadcast. He has also worked with CNN.com, has written for Reuters and AFP, contributed to the UK-based ITN-Channel 4 News, and has been the South Asia Representative of Peter Arnett’s Broadcast News Network (BNN TV).
Joshi has been Editorial Consultant for the Sahara Group, helping set up TV channels across India, as well as recruiting and training professionals for them. Prior to Sahara Group, he was with NDTV as its sole Business News Correspondent and was based in Mumbai.
