Media24 Family Magazines beefs up top management

Media24 Family Magazines has effected some top level changes. Willem Breytenbach has been made Publisher of the Group. He will be taking charge from March 1, 2008. Kay Karriem has been made Assistant Publisher. The Group publishes the largest magazines on the continent, including flagships ‘Huisgenoot’, ‘You’ and ‘DRUM’, a trio of weeklies that have dominated the magazine landscape in South Africa for several years.

The portfolio also includes popular fortnightly ‘TVPlus’ and ‘Move!’ magazines. The weekly has shown rapid growth in the past two years and recently reached a new high in circulation of 150 000 copies, claimed the company.

Breytenbach has been with Media24 since 1995. He was News Editor of ‘Die Burger’ in the Eastern and Western Cape. He has also lived in Delhi for three years, where he was responsible for the business development for Naspers in the region and research of media companies and products in India.

Karriem will be based in Sandton and her duties would include looking after ‘Move!’ She has been Marketing Manager for Media24 Family Magazines like ‘Huisgenoot’, ‘You’, ‘DRUM’, ‘Huisgenoot-Pols’ and ‘You Pulse’ since October 2006. She began her career as a journalist at ‘Beeld’. During her time there, she held various positions in the production office, including senior translator and sub-editor. Later, she joined ‘Die Burger’s production office, where she was Night News Editor.
