Abhay Desai is joining Mail Today as Associate Publisher from next week. He is replacing Sanjay Bahadur, who had put in his papers earlier this month. Desai will be leading ad sales for Mail Today and relocating to Delhi. He moves from the tabloid Yuva, where he was for six months as CEO. Yuva, which caters to the youth, was launched in Mumbai on August 13, 2007, by E-sense Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
On Desai’s appointment, Suresh Balakrishnan, COO, Mail Today, said, “Desai has been in the publishing business for several years and we believe he will be able to lead the team at Mail Today.”
Desai said, “I believe the future is in compact newspapers. There are too many general newspapers in the market today. There needs to be a differentiation between compacts and general newspapers. Mail Today has some exciting expansion plans lined up and I am glad to be part of the team.”
Prior to joining Yuva, Desai was with DNA as GM, looking after the northern region for three and a half years. He had also worked with Hindustan Times for five years as Deputy General Manager. Before Hindustan Times, Desai had spent 10 years in the automobile industry.
