In a sudden development, Ashish Bhasin, who was appointed Executive Vice-President, Lowe Worldwide, and Asia Regional Director for Integrated Marketing in January 2008, has put in his papers. The 20-year Lintas veteran is joining Aegis Media as Chairman, India, and CEO, South-east Asia. Bhasin will be currently based in Mumbai, and report to Patrick Stahle, CEO, Aegis Media Asia Pacific.
When contacted, Bhasin confirmed the development. He said, “I have immensely enjoyed my 20-year-long stint with Lintas, it is a great organization. Lintas has been like a second home to me for the past two decades and I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure working here. I have handled many top brands like Unilever along the way, had the opportunity of playing a key role in establishing Integrated Marketing. But I wanted a fresh challenge, and Aegis promises to be a very exciting assignment.”
Bhasin will oversee Carat, Posterscope, Isobar and Vizeum in South-east Asia. Other than India, the countries under his charge will be Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia. He also informed that he has been given the mandate to extend Aegis Media’s operations to Vietnam, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Commenting on his departure Steve Gatfield, CEO, Lowe Worldwide said, “Ashish has been an important part of the Lintas India success story and although we are sorry to see him go, we wish him every success for his future pursuits. He has greatly contributed to the success of the Lintas Group and has played a vital role in building and strengthening Lowe’s presence across Asia.”
Coming close on the heels of the departures of Prem Mehta, former Chairman & MD, Lintas India, and Pranesh Misra, the Interpublic Group (IPG) seems to be facing a fair amount of teething problems after acquiring complete control of Lintas India, and the subsequent integration of Lowe India into the Lowe Worldwide system. Misra had assumed the role of Global Director, Marketing Accountability, in January 2008.
Prior to his elevation as EVP, Lowe Worldwide, Bhasin was Director – Integrated Marketing Action Group (IMAG), Lintas India. Among the important assignments he has handled during his long stint at Lintas was the HUL account across seven Asian countries. At Lintas IMAG, Bhasin oversaw eight specialised companies – Linterland for rural marketing, Lintas Personal for CRM and direct marketing, LINOpinion for public relations, Advent for events, Lintertainment for entertainment marketing, Lintas Healthcare for healthcare marketing, dCell for strategic design, and Aaren Initiative for out-of-home.
Bhasin has won accolades such as ‘Media Marketer of the Year’, and a recipient of the ‘Indira Super Achiever Award’, besides having been on the juries of Cannes Lions and Dubai Ad Lynx Awards.
