Loksatta’s Kumar Ketkar joins Bhaskar Group

To handle the Marathi language venture of Dainik Bhaskar, the group has appointed Kumar Ketkar as Chief Editor of Dainik Divya Marathi. Ketkar joins from Loksatta.

It may be recalled that on February 3, 2011, the Dainik Bhaskar Group had informed the Bombay Stock Exchange about its plan to enter Maharashtra in the Marathi language newspaper domain. Ketkar will be looking after this entire project of Dainik Bhaskar. Speaking on this development, Ketkar said, “We are going to launch multiple editions in Maharashtra soon. The first edition of the newspaper will be from Aurangabad.”

The final decision on future strategies to enter Maharashtra in the Marathi language domain will be taken in the board meetings that are scheduled to take place from March 14 to 16, 2011. Ketkar noted that because of the several competitors in this domain, this project was going to be interesting and challenging for him.

Ketkar has been active in journalism for the last 40 years. He had started his journalistic career with Economics Times as a Staff Reporter. Prior to Loksatta, he had worked with The Observer and Maharashtra Times, among others. Ketkar has also received the prestigious Padma Shri award for his journalistic work.
