Rajeev Chandrasekhar has become been elected President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and will assume the office at the conclusion of the 80th Annual Session of FICCI. Chandrasekhar is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jupiter Capital, which is a leading venture development, management and investment company that focusses on infrastructure, media and technology ventures of the future.
Chandrasekhar had founded BPL Mobile in 1994 and was one of the earliest investors to spot the Indian telecom opportunity and invest in it. He holds a Master degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and is a Graduate in Advanced Management from Harvard University, Boston.
Chandrasekhar is also a Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha, representing Bangalore. His flagship company Jupiter Capital is evaluating and pursing investments in the untapped infrastructure space in areas like transportation; utilities such as water and electricity transmission; and aviation, where new opportunities for private capital are emerging. These opportunities are being pursued through Hindustan Infrastructure Projects & Engineering Pvt. Ltd.
Jupiter Capital’s technology interests include digital signal processing, wireless systems, encryption and decryption technologies, C4I Systems and Networked Centric Warfare Systems. Chandrasekhar is pursuing these through a company called Jupiter Strategic Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Chandrasekhar’s media and entertainment interests are focused on regional language TV broadcasting, radio and digital media. Through acquisitions and organically, he is building two brands – Asianet for regional language television, and Indigo for contemporary media and entertainment. The media and entertainment investments are being pursued through Jupiter Entertainment Ventures Pvt. Ltd.
